Dr. Jan Christilaw

Dr. Jan Christilaw is an obstetrician-gynecologist, Professor Emeritus at the University of British Columbia, and an internationally recognized advocate for women’s and maternal health. She previously served as President of BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre and as President of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada.

Dr. Christilaw has made significant contributions to CNIS through maternal health education, capacity building, and the development and evaluation of training initiatives, including the Fundamental Intervention, Referral and Safe Transfer (FIRST) for Midwives program. Her global health work has supported maternal and newborn health education and training in several African countries.

A Member of the Order of Canada, Dr. Christilaw has been recognized nationally and internationally for her leadership in obstetrical care and her efforts to improve maternal health in low-resource settings.
