Dr. Vanessa Fawcett

Dr. Vanessa FawcettDr. Vanessa Fawcett is a general and trauma surgeon and Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta. Based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, her clinical and research interests include trauma care, injury prevention, injury surveillance, and global health.Dr. Fawcett has a longstanding interest in strengthening surgical care and education in resource-limited settings. Her global health work has included surgical education and training in Rwanda and collaboration with the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA).An active member of the Canadian Network for International Surgery (CNIS), Dr. Fawcett has contributed expertise in global surgery and injury surveillance. Her research has included the development and evaluation of trauma surveillance systems in Africa, including the Cape Town Trauma Registry, supporting the use of injury data to strengthen prevention and trauma care.
