CNIS training changed how carefully I approach anatomy, local anaesthetic dosing and the prevention of surgical complications. During the training, a patient developed internal bleeding after a hernia sac was not properly transfixed. Recognizing the deterioration led to the patient being taken back to theatre, where the bleeding was controlled. I learned that even a seemingly simple surgical step can have life-threatening consequences if it is not done properly.
